Answers to common questions about Today I…

Why do you use a different appearance after three entries?
After you add a third entry, we give the day a settled appearance. We keep that appearance even if you add more. We use the appearance change as a visual distinction, not a score or reward.
Is there a maximum number of entries per day?
No. You can add as many as you want. We give a day the same settled appearance after three entries, whether you add three or seven.
What about empty days?
You can leave any day empty. We do not shame you or ask you to fill it in later. There are no streaks.
Can I edit a past day?
Yes. Swipe back to an earlier day — on Mac, use the ‹ › arrows beside the title — or tap a day in History. Past days work like today: add entries with the field at the bottom, and long-press an entry (ctrl-click on Mac) to change one you already wrote. You can add to a day you left empty.
Where do you store my data?
We store your entries on your device and use iCloud for sync when you sign in to iCloud on that device. You can use Today I… without creating an account with us, and we do not send your entries to servers we operate. To remove the iCloud copy, delete Today I… from every device and then delete its data from iCloud (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on iPhone and iPad, or System Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage on Mac).
I'm on a Mac. Can I add entries from the terminal?
Yes. In the app, open Settings → Advanced and copy the install command, then paste it in Terminal. It links todayi into ~/.local/bin. From any shell, run todayi add "the thing I did" to add an entry or todayi fetch to read today's entries. Make sure ~/.local/bin is on your PATH.
What reminder options do I have?

Two optional reminders are available, and you can turn either one off.

End-of-day window. Choose a time window in Settings. We send one reminder during that window. The presets are:

  • Early: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
  • Standard: 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Late: 10:00 PM to 11:30 PM
  • Custom: choose your own start and end time
  • Disabled: no end-of-day reminder

Midday nudge. Turn it on in Settings if you want a reminder between 11 AM and 1 PM. We send it only when you have not logged anything that day. It is off by default.

The end-of-day reminder also stops once you have noted three things that day. We use these thresholds only to decide when to send a reminder.

What about widgets and Control Center?
On iPhone and iPad there is a Lock Screen widget, a Home Screen widget, and a Control Center button — all of them open the app with the entry field focused. On Mac you get the same widget, and you can add the button in Control Center.
